Emily Ball

My name is Emily Ball, I am a Ph.D. student in the Natural Resource Ecology and Management Department. I am originally from northern New York, where I received a Bachelor of Science from SUNY Potsdam and a Master of Science from Clarkson University. Two reasons why I choose to come to Iowa State were the opportunity to experience the Midwest and attend at a large university.

One of many things that I enjoy about Iowa State is the opportunity to experience activities associated with a “big university”. Within my department it feels like a "small university" where students have the opportunity to interact with the faculty and other students on a personal level. I feel this enhances the educational experience.

The focus of my research is to explore what factors influence the recruitment of juvenile walleye and their stocking success here in Iowa. Specifically my research has three objectives: 1) determining short and long term survival; 2) the diet composition; and 3) the movement and use of habitat by the stocked juvenile walleye. I am the proud recipient of the AGEP and George Washington Carver Fellowships here at Iowa State.

Additionally, I received the Anchor QEA scholarship. When I am not working on my research you can find me hiking the trails and fishing the waterways of Iowa.
